Congressman Himes Celebrates "Valentines for Veterans" at Silvermine
On Monday, Feb. 12, Congressman Jim Himes celebrated his annual Valentines for Vets program with students and staff at Silvermine Dual Language Magnet School. Silvermine students made Valentine’s Day cards that Himes’ office would later deliver to local veterans.
Himes was joined by Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling, a veteran of the United States Navy, and Air Force Veteran Brandon Blank, who each share their experiences with the students about being in the military and took some time to answer questions. Himes also met with Principal Yesenia Paredes and Superintendent Dr. Alexandra Estrella upon his arrival.
Now in its 13th year, the Valentines for Vets program invites elementary schools and youth organizations to make Valentine’s Day cards for local veterans. Around 60 schools and organizations across District 4 in Connecticut participate annually, providing the Congressman with hundreds of Valentine’s Day cards to deliver. The cards are distributed to various veterans organizations just before the holiday.
