Principal Message
Dear Silvermine Families,
Happy school year 2026-27! We are excited for the new year and look forward to building on last year's great momentum, where we surpassed expectations on several academic fronts. Silvermine was recently recognized by the district with honors in both Math Proficiency and Attendance Excellence. Thank you to our teachers, parents, and especially our students for showing up and excelling.
To maintain this positive direction, our school vision for this academic year will focus on three distinctive areas:
- Small Group Instruction: Targeted academic support tailored to individual student learning speeds to foster deep understanding.
- Behavioral Management: Cultivating positive, consistent, and structured routines that reinforce mutual respect and daily learning.
- Data Systems: Utilizing timely assessments and metrics to guide instruction, track growth, and refine classroom strategies.
Daily Small Group Instruction & Schedule Changes
This year, we are implementing a master schedule focused on daily small group instruction. We have removed the WIN block to offer 30 minutes of dedicated small group instruction in both Math and Literacy every day. This student-centered approach allows students and teachers to engage in partnership learning, giving students more space to collaborate with peers and work individually.
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)
We are continuing to use Kickboard and Move This World as our social-emotional platforms. Kickboard helps parents stay connected with teachers regarding how their child is learning and interacting socially. Move This World will feature more lessons in Spanish, closed captions, videos, and literature.
We have allocated an SEL block for morning meetings, where students can discuss their emotions, interests, and hobbies. We have also incorporated journaling into this time. After unpacking their materials each morning, students will choose from a list of grade-level prompts to express themselves through writing and drawing:
- Kindergarten - 2nd Grade: Drawing, drawing with labels, and drawing with writing.
- 3rd - 5th Grade: Writing only across a variety of genres.
Data Systems
Data is our foundational pillar this year as we work to better understand how our students learn best. Following feedback from the Central Office, our Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) has launched a targeted version of Fly High Fridays, conducted 1:1 student conferencing to review SBA goals, and organized a testing pep rally to drive parent engagement.
Our main focus is to support our students, particularly Multi-Language Learners (MLL), in moving up a level or color band in state testing (e.g., advancing from Level 2 to Level 3 on SBA/LAS Links, or moving from Red to Yellow on DIBELS/NWEA). To support this, we are launching a Data Committee, initiating monthly teacher data reviews, and using ongoing progress monitoring to guide our instruction.
Testing will begin later in September. Look for the testing calendar in next week's newsletter.
Spanish Language Arts
As a Dual Language school, we are expanding our Spanish language programming. Following our successful summer Spanish Literacy Enrichment Program, we will soon share details via ParentSquare regarding a free continuation of this program, offered after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Open House
We look forward to meeting with you during our School Open House on September 17th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
