2020 Reopening Plans

NPS

Due to the power, internet and cell phone outages caused by this week's tropical storm, the due date for these forms has been extended to the end of the day Tuesday, August 11. Please make sure your child's fall selection is completed by then.

Norwalk Public Schools is planning for a safe return to teaching and learning this fall for our students and staff. The district has worked on the 2020-21 School Reopening Plan using guidelines from the Connecticut State Department of Education, as well as input from the Norwalk Health Department. The Plan was designed by the NPS Reopening Task Force, a group comprised of district and school leaders, community health experts, teachers, staff, parents, community members and individuals from partner organizations.

To finalize plans for the safe return to school, Norwalk Public Schools needs to know which learning model students are expected participate in.

Please fill out the Reopening Selection Form by Friday, August 7. 2020. If you have more than one student in your household, please fill out a separate form for each student.

If you have already submitted a form, there is no need to fill out another one. This is the same form that was sent to parents last week by email, and should only be used by families who have not yet responded. Thank you!

2020-21 NPS School Reopening Report

The district has submitted its plan to the Connecticut State Department of Education for the reopening of schools this fall. The plan was designed by the NPS Reopening Task Force, a group comprised of district and school leaders, community health experts, teachers, staff, parents, community members and individuals from partner organizations.

The plan was prepared in accordance with the State’s current requirement for a full return to in-person learning for this fall, with a virtual option for families who wish to opt out. It also addresses how the district is preparing in case the current risk from COVID-19 rises in the future. If the risk level rises to moderate, the district would transition to a “hybrid” in-person and remote model to reduce density in schools to 50%. If the COVID-19 risk level rises to high, a full remote learning model would be implemented across the district, with all students learning from home.

Any change to in-person learning would be made in consultation with the Norwalk Health Director and Connecticut State Department of Education.

For an overview of the plan, join NPS and Superintendent Dr. Alexandra Estrella at a virtual town hall meeting on Wednesday, July 29.  There will be two parent meetings, including one in Spanish, as well as a separate one for parents and guardians.  Click here for more district information.
